Join us for our historically accurate "Hot Time in the Rail Town Tonight" evening on October 9, 2010, at the Tiburon Fire Department. Your participation in this historic fundraising event is essential to sustain the Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks for our community.

We are fortunate to have the opportunity to host this years' event in the Tiburon Fire Department located in the old rail yard. In 1921 fires swept through the North Western Pacific rail yard and another consuming Main Street the same year. With the original volunteer fire department operating out of the rail yard, the need for Tiburon and Belvedere to form their own fire departments was realized. Belvedere established their first Fire Dept in 1936 and Tiburon in 1941.

Seventeen men comprised the first roster of volunteer firefighters in Tiburon.  Many were employed by NWP or had businesses in town and lived on the hillside above the railroad yard. Volunteers were alerted by the NWP air horn alarm system from the rail yard and a good compliment of men could always be depended on to respond.
